The focus of any room is going to be its windows because of the view. How the view is framed will lead the eye of visitors to viewing the family pictures on the walls. Matching framing gives the viewer a sense of balance and completion. Sometimes trending complementary framing gives the viewer ideas for their own windows and pictures.

For example, a home with a water view might have windows framed in a dark wood, especially if the water view is from the east or south, where the room will have plenty of light. Picture frames could be just as dark because the light will showcase them. In darker rooms, however, if the picture framing was made of lighter woods against pale or neutral wall colors, they would stand out quite well.

Many people prefer painted picture frames to match their furniture or window treatment colors. Some framing resembles an old, torn down barn or has been treated to look aged, as if it had been around since the turn of the century. Yet other framing has been made to look as if it had sustained water damage. These would look good in a beach house or one with water frontage.

If you’re wondering how you can decorate with small, wooden window frame groupings, I have some fabulous ideas for you. My absolute favorite idea is used outside or maybe in the corner of your porch. You can arrange the windows to build a small, glass house (or green house) and place some plants inside. Start by making a cube out of four of the windows, this works best if the windows are of similar sizing. Then angle two more windows slanting over the top like a roof.Get more information here. http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/dc/roundup/subtle-sophistication-black-frame-windows-151545 This makes a fabulous and functional display case. The glass allows in light and holds in moisture, but still vents out excess moisture and allows fresh air flow. This works particularly well when the nightly temperatures start dipping because the plants inside are kept frost free. It is easy and requires minimal time and hardware. You could also free hang old windows 6-10″ inside of the windows in your home or apartment. It’s a lovely accent and looks especially shabby chic if the paint is worn in some areas. You can create this look by using sandpaper to wear off some of the paint. Groups of windows can also be hung on walls in groups as focal points on a large blank wall or in a long hallway. Work with multiple ideas and strategies to decorate with small, wooden window frame groupings, and consider painting the frames in colors that accent your room.

Many old frames have aged with a look that is delightful to the person who can see beyond the modern finished look. The wood in these old frames can be unique and sometimes exotic depending upon what wood was available. Often the painted frame acquires a worn look that is an artful expression of age.

Almost any wood will clean up and look charming in a setting that is furnished with aging furniture. Building demolition companies have window frames that sell for a reasonable amount of money, and they look the part of a woodworker-s aging masterpiece.

Most decorators favor just cleaning the wood with a mild scouring pad and some window cleaner. Its amazing how this simple procedure brings out the wood appearance that is a gentle reminder of simple times when the worries were more about whether the oldest daughter will ever marry.

Shabby chic is a term most people are familiar with, but for the most part there is nothing shabby about have a knack for style while saving tons of money. Many items people sell in flea markets, garage sales, or thrift stores can be found in near perfect conditions for a way less amount of money than you’d spend in a department store, plus you can add your only little touches to make the items more personal. Out of all of the places I’ve mentioned where you can shop for items to make into your own shabby chic decor, the best place to go is definetely to the flea market.

In a flea market, you can find almost anything you want. From newer products like designer fragrances, to old kid toys, a flea market has a wide variety of treasures just waiting to be discovered by someone with a good eye. Whenever I’m at a flea market, I never come home empty handed because there is always something to be discovered. Once I bought a couch for 10 bucks, and granted it didn’t have fabric I liked, but it inspired me. When I brought it home, I had some fabric that was perfect for the couch and I had it re-upholserted in my new fabric. Not bad for 10 bucks.

I’ve also come across these rare flowers that were a collector’s item back in the 19070′s and they only cost a buck, and now they look lovely on my living room stand with the rest of the flowers I’ve managed to find through the years. If you like to decorate your house with knick knacks, even hard to find ones, I find my luck at a flea market.

Many people at flea markets create and design their own items for sale, and sometimes you can find a one of a kind special item that you’d never find anywhere else. On top of that, the items are usually very well priced and if you feel social enough, you can even haggle over prizes on many items. I purchased a handmade blanket that way once, and now it’s hanging over the back of my flea market couch.

The only way to learn for yourself how amazing and exciting it can be to find treasures in a flea market is by going to one yourself. Even if you don’t buy a lot, you will be sure to feel inspiration for the shabby chic look you desire.

People are looking to recycle more items. This can include cloth goods as well. Recycled old linen bedspreads make wonderful pillows. Even is sewing is not your forte, pillows are easy to make, and you can give your living room new life with next to no cost. The first step to making pillows is to decide on a pattern and size. Second, cut a piece of cardboad into the correct size and shape to save money. Squares, rectangles, and circles are easiest. Next, cut fabric to pattern size. Remember to leave a little extra fabric. After cutting fabric, pin the two peices of the pillow together. Place the side to show inside as it will be reversed later. Sew three of the four sides of the pillow together. If a circle pillow is being made, leave about a three inch opening to fill the pillow. After sewing the pillow, stuff with poly fill. After finishing stuffing the pillow, finish sewing the remaining opening. After pillow is completly closed, the outside may be decorated. It is easy to add ribbon, buttons, or lace to pillows. These pillows are a great way to recycle family heirlooms, and make wonderful gifts as well!

Distressed wood is great for cupboard veneers. The idea of using this material is to make the outside of the cupboards look older than they cupboards really are. As odd as it may seem, the one type of wood not used in this process is old, distressed wood. Using old discarded wood for cupboards or other items may not work the way the designer intends it to work. The trick is getting the wood to look distressed. Actual old wood may suffer from rot, mold, mildew and other items that make it less than desirable as a buuilding material.

Since you cannot use wood that has actually been distressed as a building material, you need to go someplace that sells wood that is made to look this way. Your local lumber yard is your best bet. If the local lumber yard does not carry it, another place that might know where to get it is at an interior decorating firm. Interior decorators will know where to get ahold of many products that will make your home look better. When the distressed wood kitchen cupboard veneer is put into place, you can enjoy the rustic look for many years to come. People who come to visit your home certainly will.

How you choose to dress your windows is of great importance. Not only do curtains control the amount of light that enters a room, but they are also considered to be an important design element. The choice between antique and new is often a tough one, and arguments can be made for both.

There are several benefits associated with antique linens. The top one being that they are unique. Having curtains that are not at all similar to what your friends and family have offers you a sense of pride.

If there is a drawback to antique curtains, it is that they are becoming increasingly hard to find in good condition. That said, most antique curtains are extremely well made, many by hand, and if you can find them, they will last a long time.

New curtains have the benefit of being available in a wide variety of colors and patterns. They also tend to be quite affordable. They can easily be found in many retail stores, as well as online.

Keep in mind that you are not locked into choosing all new, or all antique. Designers consider it acceptable to have one type in the living room, and another in the bedroom. Design is about what is pleasing to you, and whichever curtains you choose will be absolutely fine.
